Dedicated to playing jazz valve trombone .
Influenced by the great valve trombone masters of the past such as BOB BROOKMEYER, JUAN TIZOL, BRAD GOWANS and ROB McCONNELL. Barry Mosley continues this JAZZ LEGACY. The goal is always artful melodic jazz.
As a young trombonist, Barry was invited on stage many times by trumpeter CHET BAKER in the mid 1980 s in the California Bay area, and in 1989 Barry moved to Los Angeles to be a part of the amazing music scene there.
Upon arriving in Los Angeles, Barry was soon mentored by two great trombonist , SLYDE HYDE and BILL WATROUS, helping him break into the the jazz scene and best jazz venues.
Leading his own jazz trio s and quartets, Barry has performed at the top jazz clubs in Los Angeles for many years bringing cool tasteful jazz to the jazz venues.
Los Angeles jazz club shows include Spazios ,Vitellos, Jax Bar and Grill, The Red White and Bluezz, Coles Downtown LA, Caffe 322, The Squashed Grapes in Ventura, The Hip Kitty Jazz Club in Claremont, The Left Coast Wine Bar Art Gallery, Colombo’s Jazz Club , and many more…
Credits also include performing for corporate events and upscale private events including many years for the HOLLYWOOD ANIMATION FILM AWARDS ( ANNIE AWARDS ) at Royce Hall.
The warm unique sound of the valve trombone and the melodic classic style is a special jazz sound always in good style.
The jazz trio setting without drums is how I have recorded my CD s JAZZ TIME and PLAYING IT COOL. ( see CDs below ) This is a concept Chet Baker used in almost all of his later recordings and live performances.
The reason is that without the sound of the cymbals and snare the musical harmonic interplay between the musicians is more personnel with less distraction. We have never needed drums to keep the time as we have that in us already with many years experience in jazz performance.
NOTE I have added drums on live performances if expected by the venue or corporate event, however most of the time we are playing with trio . Either valve trombone , piano and bass, OR valve trombone guitar and bass.
LAJAZZ.COM review from Colombo's Jazz Room
" Instrumental stand-out was Barry Mosley on valve trombone. Clearly a student of valve giant Bob Brookmeyer, Mosley's tone was soft, sweet and hypnotic, yet thick with power and drive. This is a man who practices… long and often. "
