The valve trombone has had a unique place in jazz history. Early 1900s valve trombonist such as Brad Gowans and Juan Tizal set the path, later followed by Bob Brookmeyer and Rob McConnell. Barry Mosley is continuing the great jazz tradition of this beautiful sounding unique instrument. .
As a young trombonist, Barry was a many times stage guest of jazz great Chet Baker in the mid 1980s. Chet Baker‘s cool West Coast Jazz as well as Bob Brookmeyer influenced Barry‘s playing. Jazz that is lyrical and really swings, also including beautiful jazz ballads and bossa novas.
As a leader, Barry has formed trios or quartets that have performed at the best Los Angeles jazz clubs, including Vitellos, Spazios, Edwin Mills, The Squashed Grapes, Red White and Bluezz, Jax Bar and Grill, the Left Coast Wine Bar art Gallery, Coles downtown LA, the Hip Kitty in Clairmont , Caffe 322, Colombo’s and more....
Barry Mosley‘s group has also performed for the HOLLYWOOD ANNIE AWARDS ( animation film awards) for for the last seven years. Other private events include Project Cuttle Hollywood fund raiser, and events at the Riviera Country Club, Marina Del Ray Yacht Club, and more....
The focus is on playing great lyrical jazz with the unique sounds of valve trombone.

LAJAZZ.COM review from Colombo's Jazz Room
" Instrumental stand-out was Barry Mosley on valve trombone. Clearly a student of valve giant Bob Brookmeyer, Mosley's tone was soft, sweet and hypnotic, yet thick with power and drive. This is a man who practices… long and often. "
